Happy Solstice, Everyone!
This full Moon lands the day after the Sun ingresses into Cancer at 0º, the degree that marks the Summer Solstice in the Northern Hemisphere. After the flurry of mental activity that followed the last new Moon, when 5 planets were in Gemini (Mercury-ruled air sign = thought and communication), we have come into a more receptive and feeling space, with Sun, Mercury and Venus, all in Cancer. Ruled by the Moon, water sign Cancer governs the body (60-70% water), our emotions and our intuition. Family relationships, ancestors and the family system are important elements for Cancer, making it the ruler of Family Constellations, at least in my mind! Cancerians are generally sensitive and nurturing folks, with a tendency to want to take care of others.
That being said, the Moon herself is in exile, in the sign of Capricorn. This Saturn-ruled earth sign is concerned with taking care of business, being efficient, and accomplishing as much as possible in any given situation. This Moon can be very matter-of-fact and seem emotionally distant or unavailable. She is not a happy camper here to begin with, even less so by the fact that she has no relationships with any of the planets, except for Pluto. Even her semi-sextile (30º) with Pluto is not actually recognized by Hellenistic astrology, because at this distance, they are unable to “see” each other. Poor Moon!
But wait, there’s an upside to this. Her isolation may actually be a blessing in disguise, after the intensity of the past few months. This may be exactly what we need, leading into the coming Moon cycle, with the new Moon in Cancer on July 5th. By the way, we will experience another full Moon in Capricorn on July 21st, at 29º Capricorn and Cancer. What does this tell us? It is simply accentuating the Cancer-Capricorn axis, urging us to deeply consider issues around job or financial security, caring for our loved ones, balance between work and home, etc. This is a good time to be in observation mode, noting whatever is coming up and just sitting with it, not trying to change anything, allowing it to be and to show us what it is that we need to see.
Let’s delve a little more into this Cancer-Capricorn axis. In ancient astrology, Cancer was said to be the “Gateway of Mankind”, and Capricorn was the “Gateway of the Gods”. The Moon, Cancer’s sovereign, rules the material world, because she is the astral body the closest to it, creating the ebb and flow of life on Earth. It is said that through the Summer Solstice point, 0º Cancer, the light moves into the material world from the Cosmos, and thus marks the doorway or gateway of Humanity. Winter solstice, on the other hand, marks the darkest time of the year, where, from within the darkness, light begins to grow. It urges us to aspire to the light of the Universe, moving from unconscious enmeshment with the world into cosmic splendor, which is why 0º Capricorn was considered by the ancients to be the Gateway of the Gods. The interplay between these two is what gives us the ebb and flow of the seasons and the contrast of Dark and Light.
Moon in Capricorn is in Saturn’s domain. Saturn can be quite helpful at times, especially when a disciplined approach is called for. With the Jupiter-Uranian energies so strong as of late, the calm and poise of Saturn could be a refreshing change of pace. This could also mark a powerful time to delve into the family system and bring up unresolved issues to be looked at and processed. Family Constellations is the best modality I am aware of that can do just that. I have 2 upcoming workshops in Lafayette and Arnaudville, LA. I will soon be offering these online so that they can be experienced by everyone.
The individualized version of Family Constellations that I practice is what I call Crystal Constellations. You can take advantage of the lull in the cosmic dance to get to the bottom of those issues that have been bothering you for some time now. Whether it be troubling family dynamics, a health issue, or any problem screaming for resolution, Crystal Constellations can help. We set up your constellations using crystals, which represent the elements in your system, allowing them to be tangibly visible to you. What happens next is pure magic: the energies of your field guide us to interact with them in ways that bring about resolution and a clear understanding of the underlying dynamics, heretofore unknown or invisible to you. You leave feeling lighter, clearer, knowing exactly what needs to happen next.
To celebrate this Cancer season, which is very favorable for doing any kind of family therapy, we are offering 2 Crystal Constellation sessions for the price of 1. You are welcome to share one of the sessions with a friend or family member. Just go to my website (scroll down) to schedule your session, and during that session we will schedule or arrange for the second session to take place.
In Gratitude, and wishing you a lovely Cancer season,
Sarah Songbird
