Full Moon in Capricorn (number 2), July 21st, 2024

Here we are, at our second full Moon in Capricorn this year, a “blue moon” of sorts, endowed with several fascinating aspects to explore. The Moon herself is conjunct Pluto, moving into exactitude in the hours ensuing her fullness, followed soon after by the Sun opposing Pluto. These aspects emphasize the idea that we have definitively entered into the Age of Aquarius, originally indicated by the Jupiter-Saturn conjunction at the very same degree (0º Aquarius) on December 20th, 2020. This full Moon marks the next chapter of the era of “brotherly love”, in spite of all outward appearances. We are inexorably heading into a phase where our sights are turning away from the greed, self-gratification and one-upmanship of the past millennia, focusing instead on cooperation, authentic communication, community and service.

That said, these things happen in waves, and we can expect to be overwhelmed and blindsided by Pluto’s last passage through the final degree of Capricorn, from September to mid-November, which includes the elections. Some people are postulating that these will not even take place, because of the extreme volatility and unpredictability of the current times. Whatever the case may be, we are definitely living in exceptional times, that call for exceptional levels of compassion, cooperation and support for one-another.

The internet is abuzz with talk of an immanent financial collapse… some thought it might take place during the Mars-Uranus conjunction we just experienced last Monday, July 15th. In hindsight, the attempted assassination of former president Trump may be a more accurate expression of that volatile aspect, even if it happened 2 days prior - astrology is not an exact science! Regardless, we are living in extraordinary times, and the astrology has been reiterating this for months, starting with the Great American Eclipse in April, with no particular end in sight! Next year will witness the ingress of Uranus into Gemini and Neptune into Aries, which are hallmark events, mainly because of the length of time spent by these outer planets in each of the signs. Not to outdo Pluto, who will reside in Aquarius for the next 20 years, starting at the end of this year!

Another notable aspect of this full Moon is an exact trine (120º) between Mars in Gemini and Pluto in Aquarius. In air signs, this aspect denotes the possibility of a truce, or at least negotiations, in an existing conflict. The fact that the Moon and Sun will both aspect Pluto in the hours following this alignment speaks volumes about the potential for both sides, whether considered protagonist or antagonist, to come to some sort of agreement. In Aquarius, Pluto and the Moon empower the People while the Sun in Leo represents the leaders, government, heads of state. Perhaps this is more about the masses standing up to the dictatorial edicts of a select few, than a conflict between groups of people… to be followed!

Another possible interpretation of this aspect, especially of the ingress of the Sun into his own sign of Leo, opposing Pluto immediately upon arrival, would be the heralding of a would-be king upon the throne while the people throng and venerate their leader. Interestingly, although a Gemini Sun (Gemini can be very polarizing), Donald Trump has a Leo rising, which would explain his wild popularity among his followers, and his ability to captivate the attention of so many, whether they are fans or not.

Then we have a square (90º) between Mercury in Leo and Uranus in Taurus. Like the Pluto-Mars trine, this aspect is also exact, an indication of the importance of these aspects. While the Mars-Pluto trine in air signs indicates the possibility of negotiation, this square in fixed signs muddies the water a bit. There is a feeling of sneaky defiance, like surreptitiously sticking one’s foot out to trip the runner on the track, streaking down the final yards to the finish line. Perhaps we are looking at smoke and mirrors in the official explanation of the assassination attempt, which makes absolutely no sense when considered objectively.

Another very close sextile (60º) aspect between our benefics, Venus and Jupiter, may have given our runner the foresight needed to soar over the outstretched foot and fly through the ribbon into first place. Some might equate this to the recent Republican National Convention, which bore the hallmarks of success, determination, force and unity among party members, even inspiring a few democrats to join their ranks. Whatever we are looking at here, there is a breath-taking back and forth, including near misses and spectacular wins, that we may be talking about for years to come.

The last aspects, also exact, that I will speak of are Neptune’s trine (120º) to the Sun and sextile (60º) to the Moon. Neptune’s aspects to the Sun and Moon while the Moon is full, speak of caring, compassion, service, and taking into account the universal truth and unconditional love that permeate our world, in spite of all outward appearances. I will say it again: we are living in extraordinary times, and however we choose to live our lives right now will determine the outcome of the rest of our existence. This should come as no surprise for those of us who are already spending their lives in service to others, in whatever capacity that might be.

Last weekend during a plant ceremony, I learned that the thoughts of judgment that I had running in an old program in my brain, whether toward myself or others, were no longer serving me, or anyone else for that matter. I am learning to channel these thoughts through my heart, because judgment cannot exist in the heart, and the best way I know to serve my fellow human beings, and all beings on this planet, is through unconditional love, not judgment. That is exactly what Neptune’s aspects to the Sun and Moon in the fullness of this lunation are teaching us: please take care of one another. Please step up to the plate when called upon to serve your family, your community, and Life itself. We are here because of the sacrifices that were made by others before us - let us never forget that. Happiness doesn’t exist in a vacuum. It is always a function of our interactions and relationships with others, and with the world in general. Let us remember this as we navigate through these incredible times.

In Service and Gratitude,
