Full Moon in Pisces, September 20th, 2021

This full Moon is asking us a question: should the rational mind and ability to reason take precedence over the intuitive mind? Like it or not, this is what we have been taught to believe. Intuition has been given a bad rap, especially over the course of the past few hundred years, with the adoption of Cartesian philosophy and others. And yet, Albert Einstein himself touted intuition as a gift: "The intuitive mind is a sacred gift and the rational mind is a faithful servant. We have created a society that honors the servant and has forgotten the gift."

Unfortunately, even the ability to reason has been severely declining in our society, instead giving way to reactionary thinking based on preference and programming, leaving both reason and intuition in the dust. Perhaps this full Moon can give us some insight into an age-old problem: to discern between fact and fiction using ALL of our intelligence-gathering faculties instead of one or the other, or none at all!

In this chart we see an interesting relationship between Venus (desire) and Mars (action), who are both debilitated in the sign that the other rules. This is known as a "mutual reception", but in this case they are both in their debility, meaning that they are in signs that weaken them. The positive aspect of this is that they are better able to feel into the other's position, and thus become more understanding and accepting of it. My current astrology teacher, Acyuta Bhava Das, uses an interesting analogy: it's like two "freinemies" who, after drinking too much at the bar, have to lean on each other's shoulders to walk home safely.

Venus is especially hard-hit, just coming out of a square aspect with Saturn and about to enter into an opposition with Uranus. Not only is she not in a beneficial place for her, but she is dealing with being shut down (Saturn) and now she's looking at a sudden and potentially major change (Uranus) in her situation. As if that weren't enough, she is also in a tense relationship with Chiron (the Wounded Healer) in Aries, the other Mars-ruled sign. Feelings of rejection, jealousy or other difficult emotions may arise, particularly in intimate relationships. The wounding may be rough, sharp or jagged, but the healing will be all the more powerful once she comes through this initiation. Why? Because she is the ruler of Taurus, where Uranus now resides and who is offering her an opportunity to change her situation. He answers to Venus, which means that whatever changes happen will be serving harmony, love, connection and the highest good for all concerned. Sometimes it takes radical change for us to realize that we do not "own" the truth and that whatever serves unity and the highest good is way more important than being "right". Or perhaps the lesson is that we must first take care of ourselves before putting others ahead of us, as we are the only ones who know what is best for us - the analogy of the adult putting on their oxygen mask before helping their child applies here. This can definitely go both ways.

Mars, on the other hand, although his ability to take decisive action based on strong conviction may be impaired while sojourning through Libra, a Venus-ruled sign, he is feeling the warming rays of the Sun catching up with him. This will help him through this indecisive phase, especially when he is cazimi (exactly conjunct) the Sun on October 7th, just after the new Moon in Libra. So, what does this all have to do with the Mind?

The Sun in Virgo answers to Mercury (linear thought, reason), who in Libra, answers to Venus. We just saw what a rough day Venus is having, as you may have noticed in your relationships. There are feelings of confusion of roles and mental fogginess, especially as Mercury slows and prepares to go retrograde next Monday, 9/27. This may bring us to question our ability to reason, which for some can generate stress and fear. On top of that, Pluto in a square aspect to Mercury can greatly intensify these types of thoughts and feelings.

The Moon in Pisces, on the other hand, encourages us to perceive reality through everything EXCEPT for the intellect. We sense things through the bodily senses, and also through our intuitive "spidy senses", the subtle antennae that make up our intuitive perception. Having just touched base with Neptune, she brings forth the vast expanse of our inner vision and a sense of connection to a greater reality than the one our minds are accustomed to. The possibility of vivid dreams and visions may well be enhanced at this time.

Fortunately, Jupiter in a trine aspect to Mercury will help us feel connected to these visions, knowing that they are an extension of our consciousness and not just a waste product of the day's thoughts and emotions. The Sun trine Pluto in Capricorn grounds these visions and experiences, allowing the mind to then integrate them rather than reject them as anomalies, or "just a dream".

In light of all this, we can conclude that the linear mind may be wanting to take a break from an overload of information, much of it confused and/or contradictory. Emotional drain sometimes forces us to surrender our preconceived ideas, thereby lowering the defenses of the ego. This can potentially translate into health issues, particularly those involving the immune system, so be sure to eat plenty of raw, fresh fruits and vegetables, and supplement with vitamin C, vitamin D, zinc, colloidal silver, and herbs that help with immunity, such as Astragalus, Echinacea, Ginger, Garlic, etc. What we are dealing with in the collective points us in this direction as well, as we all know.

This period of mental and emotional cloudiness and confusion may be necessary for us to be able to take stock of our beliefs and consider that we may be too invested in a particular vision or outcome. By allowing ourselves to stop and take a moment to breathe, meditate, reflect... we open ourselves to inner-standing from a much greater perspective, thereby integrating the greater vision which can then manifest into our daily lives.

I trust that you will be able to integrate the changes with grace and harmony, and I wish you all a beautiful Full Moon in Pisces! In Gratitude,
