After the intensity of the past few weeks and months, duly reflected in the skies through the interactions of the planets against the zodiac, including a very powerful eclipse season, things are settling down a bit... That being said, Pluto's opposition with the Sun about a week after this new Moon may bring a new wave of intensity. But for now, we are officially closing the window of eclipse season with this lunation, moving into the future with the knowledge gained through lessons and experiences resulting from these eclipses.
Mercury has come out of his retrograde shadow and is cruising at full speed, after having spent an unusually long period of time - because of the retrograde - in his own sign of Gemini. This reinforced the communication and technology themes, but also one that we often forget about, which is the alchemical side of Mercury. Hermes, the god of speed, communication, the mind, but also of chemistry and alchemy, has been very present for the past 2 months. The actions and reactions, the permutations of energy and matter, the alchemy of life is what he brings. He was front and center during the powerful eclipses that happened in Gemini, and because he was retrograde during that time, the alchemy was happening from within, preparing us for what is to come.
As we all know, it's never done! The only constant is change. And the planets continue their beautiful and potent cosmic dance against the backdrop of the Zodiac, floating through archetypes, each one with its own unique piece of the puzzle that we have been pondering over for eons. The Moon is the perfect symbol of change and cycles, as she marks our lives with her sacred rhythm, ebbing and flowing in and out of potential and realization, over and over for as long as we are part of this existence. The slow-moving planets have a much longer cycle, and whole generations are under their spells.
Spending 16 years in the sign of Capricorn, Pluto is in one of his shorter cycles, as his time in one sign can be up to 25 years. We are coming to the end of his stay in Capricorn, set to be done by the end of 2024, and he won't be setting foot here again for another 233 years. The last time he was in Capricorn, the sign of big institutions, big business, big government, etc., was during the Revolutionary War. What does Pluto do? He tears down the structures in place that are rotten to the core, often leaving wreckage in his wake. The American Revolution was a prime example of a people wanting to tear down the existing structure of oppression from another country in order to rebuild society according to their newly found values, which they called a Republic.
What is happening in society now? Pluto is happening. But he's not alone. Each time a social planet moves into a hard aspect with Pluto, such as a conjunction, square or opposition, we are given indications about the kinds of social movements that might occur soon thereafter. The last aspect of this type occurred on January 12th, 2020, when Saturn and Pluto came together at 22º Capricorn. The following day an announcement was made about the first death by Covid 19. We know what happened after that, and what is continuing to unfold. Next week the Sun will be in a hard aspect, an opposition, to Pluto. It is always difficult to know just how an aspect will affect us in our personal lives and in the collective, but we can be sure that it will have a powerful impact because of all that the Sun is carrying from the eclipses he just went through. Ego death is a theme that could apply here, however that might look for an individual, and in the collective we may be experiencing some disillusionment around what we thought was solid and true.
For instance, the fact that suddenly UFO's and extraterrestrial phenomena are now being taken seriously and brought to the view of the general public, when governments have known about this for decades, should tell us something about the trustworthiness of those who are supposed to be running the show. Not to mention those who are supposed to be giving us the "news", but who are paid, bribed or otherwise conditioned to give us a watered-down version of the pre-decided narrative, in other words propaganda. Fortunately, more and more people are finding this narrative rather distasteful and are waking up to the illusion that we have been conditioned to believe for a very long time. And this is exactly what Pluto does - he wakes us up from the dream.
And the Moon is always there to keep us company, always changing form and face, but constantly at our side. This Cancer new Moon is such a gift, of nurturing our emotions, and nudging us in the direction of caring for ourselves, our loved ones and our beloved planet. We are finding new ways to honor the Earth and grow our food without harming the soil, as many of us are leaving the cities and going to live in more rural settings. We have much to learn, but Uranus in Taurus is there to teach us a thing or two, and this Moon is in full support of that.
