New Moon Solar Eclipse in Sagittarius, December 4th, 2021

This final eclipse in a series that began in May of 2020 may be a swan's song of sorts: letting go of a relationship, the realization that life is not what we were hoping it to be, or simply a wrong turn leading to a dead end. The Ancients viewed the darkening of both the Sun and the Moon, which is what happens during a solar eclipse, as potentially foreboding of disaster and calamity. Since both lights are out, darkness or evil wins. There is a lot to be said about the power of suggestion, and although modern astrology has a slightly different way of seeing the power of an eclipse, the possibility of setbacks, obstacles or unexpected delays is quite real.

The proximity of the Moon to the nodes of the Moon is what causes an eclipse to happen. In Vedic astrology, the nodes are referred to as the head (north node) and tail (south node) of the dragon. For a fascinating story of how this came about, please check out this article on Rahu and Ketu, the nodes of the Moon.

Since this is the last in a series of eclipses that has been occurring for the past year-and-a-half in the signs of Gemini and Sagittarius, let us examine what has been going on since then. You can do this personally with your own life, and chances are you will find a theme that becomes apparent. If you look at which house Sagittarius falls in your chart, you will get a sense for what this may mean for you. For a fun look at the eclipse through the house where it falls in your chart, please check out my teacher's video on this subject. Just be sure to know your rising sign, which can easily be calculated for free online on several websites, such as astro.com. In my case, it falls in my first house and has to do with my relationships with my daughters. Interestingly, in my chart Venus, the planet of relationships, love and values, is exactly conjunct the eclipse at 12º Sagittarius. Needless to say, things from the past that needed resolution have surfaced to be worked on, and we continue to work through issues as they come about.

As well all know, "this too shall pass." There are some very positive aspects to this lunation, in spite of it being an eclipse. After all, it is a new Moon, which is a time of new beginnings, fertility, conception. In Sagittarius this speaks of travel, adventure, study, and especially with Mercury so close, debating on the philosophical meaning of life. As the ruler of Sagittarius, Jupiter is the host to this eclipse. His expansive nature opens our minds to new possibilities, and gives us hope that in spite of the insanity playing out in the world today, things will eventually come together and be ok. Just one word of caution about a solar eclipse: unlike non-ecliptic lunations, it is preferable to abstain from doing rituals for manifestation, as this could potentially create the opposite effect. Instead, meditation and contemplation are much more beneficial.

In a trine aspect to Chiron in Aries, this new Moon also speaks of healing the Self, potentially the start of a new relationship, the beginning of a business venture, or perhaps a positive breakthrough. As I sit here drinking my tea, just hours before the time of the eclipse, I am feeling the beginnings of energy coming back into my body after being laid out by a nasty cold for 4 days - just an example of the types of things to look for in your experience.

As Jupiter prepares to leave the Saturn-ruled sign of Aquarius later this month, entering into his own dignity of Pisces, he is receiving a powerful punch from Mars in his own sign of Scorpio. Depending on the situation, this square can be highly beneficial, or slightly annoying. For instance, if there is the need for a large amount of energy to accomplish a specific task, this aspect is priceless. On the other hand, it could be that cheerful coworker who is unconsciously doing everything they can to outshine others or impress the boss. There can be a sense of bravado or daring, that you may witness from within yourself or coming from others. In certain parts of the world that are experiencing severe authoritarian treatment by governments, such as in Austria or Australia, this could definitely be an important energy to tap into. Whatever the case may be, avoid situations that are potentially violent, and use love and compassion to defuse ones that already are.

The quincunx aspect (150º) is not recognized by ancient astrology, as the signs do not "see" each other, and therefore cannot interact. Perhaps this is why it has always been difficult for me to interpret a quincunx, of which the definition I relate the most to is "unfinished business". There may very well be some unfinished business between the Sun-Moon couple and Uranus in Taurus, where he continues his long journey through that earthy sign. As the god of revolution and sudden change, Uranus pushes our comfort zone and challenges us to be very clear about what it is that we hold near and dear, the things and people in our lives we value the most. Let's just say that this eclipse is showing us the work that needs to be done to let go of the things/relationships that are no longer aligned with our highest good, and cultivate, nourish and cherish the ones that are.

Saturn is entering into his final square with Uranus, which will be exact at the end of the month, on Christmas Eve. This is also the last in a series, which began early this year. Saturn square Uranus will always pose challenges, and we have been witness to many of these over the past year: supply shortages, botched military operations, a southern border that has become a revolving door for human traffickers, etc. We will continue to see more of this until the end of the month, but hopefully some sort of relief is in store, some resolution will be found, after the completion of this cycle, the next of which will take place in about 45 years. Saturn, the status quo authority mindset has been clashing with Uranus, the planet of revolutionary change, bringing us to become aware of the forces that desire to control humanity and keep us in servility. The more the control crowd tries to lock us down and force us to receive an untested, poorly monitored drug, the more the people will resist. Unless we believe what the globalists, our captors, are telling us! Fortunately, this is their only hope, and it is diminishing with each day people wake up to the true agenda behind covid: Certificate Of Vaccination ID.

As we have seen, this chart is full of endings, which also implies new beginnings. But first we must face the dragon to slay it, or maybe tame it into becoming our ally. The notion that eclipses are inherently "bad" speaks to the unconscious nature of our inner drives, also represented by the Moon herself. As always, becoming aware of a dynamic is halfway to resolving it. So let us celebrate the end of the patterns that have held us back in the past, and the beginning of the new patterns that serve our highest good, by cultivating the attention, acuity and fortitude necessary to catch the smallest parcel of light and grow it into a floodlight of consciousness awareness.
